Malta Electronic Certification Services Limited (“MECS”) acts as the National Certification Authority and serves as the Qualified Trust Service Provider (“QTSP”) on behalf of the Government of Malta in compliance with the EIDAS Regulation 910/2014.
As the Certification Authority, MECS is responsible for the issuance and management of certificates including the authentication and digital electronic signing certificates embedded in the documents issued by Identità (“the Agency”) which is entrusted with the day-to-day operations.
The Agency, which also acts on behalf of the Government of Malta, is responsible for identity management solutions when it comes to eID, passports, Visas, Residence Permits, amongst other functions.
